TRI CONE DRILL BITS - MINING
DRILL CONNEX

BASIC STRUCTURE OF A TRI-CONE DRILL BIT

Tri-cone drill bits consists of a bearing structure, cutting structure,
shirttail and lug enhancement structures, flow channel system, and a
thread connections.
The bearing structure consists of lug bearing, cone bearing, seal ring
(sealed bearing), main rollers, minor rollers, locking bearing balls,
axle thrust plate, and recess thrust plate. It can be categorised into air
cooled open rlling bearing or sealed rolling bearing.
Product Characteristics
-
Specific insert type and materials are selected based on the ground formation Strength and Friability to optimise the matching of carbide wear resistance and toughness.
-
Computer simulated "bottom hole impact curve design" helps to arrange inserts effectively and balance the working load of the drill bit inserts.
-
Double Bevel Inserts: Two rows of cross patterned bevel inserts are designed to strengthen the gaging performance of the bit.
Selection of Mining Tricone Bit
Name of Drill Bit Series
The Tri Cone Bit model number is divided into four sections: drill bit diameter code, drill bit series code, drill bit category code, and additional features code.
Take the 12 ¼ SG745GF as an example:
12 1/4" SGA 745 GF
The fourth part affirms additional features. Shareate Tri-Cone drill bits can be manufactured with the following additional features:

Conventional Lug Back

New Enhanced Lug Back
G feature: Specific Lug Back strengthening

The new enhanced lug back with additional carbide effectively reduces wear in the abrasive ground conditions, improving the gage performance and bit life. In addition to the previous lug back protection inserts, more carbides have been added onto the Chamfer, which is located just above the oil storage port. This feature helps to prolong the bit life by reducing the back reaming wear on the lug area experienced with a collapsing hole scenario.

F feature: Cone Auxiliary Carbide Protection

Auxiliary carbides are embedded in between the main cutting rows and other rows on each cone, this effectively protects the cone body from erosion and enhances total drill bit life in abrasive formations.

C feature: Centre Nozzle Port

The centre nozzle port helps to clean the cuttings around the bottom of the drill bit, it also accelerates the bailing of the cuttings, reduces cone edge wear and increases bit penetration rates.

W feature: Shirt-Tail Hard Facing

WC (tungsten carbide) wear-resistant material is welded onto the lug shirttail which effectively reduces wear and protects the sealing structure and therefore prolongs the life of the bit.

R feature: Shirt-Tail Hard Facing (W feature) & Lug Back Strengthening (G feature)

Shirt-Tail Hard Facing (W feature) and Lug Back Strengthening (G feature) can effectively reduce the wear on the Lug whilst improving the drill bit gauge performance and bit life.

B feature: Cone Groove / Bevel Hard Facing

WC (tungsten carbide) wear-resistant material is welded onto the Cone Groove or Bevel to protect the cone body against wear which ultimately improves bit life in abrasive formations.
